Confocal Laser Scanning microscopy

The planer and Confocal Laser Scanning microscope (Zeiss, LSM, 510) is used to identify and confirm various rare anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) and anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) immunofluorescence patterns by two dimensional and 'Z' slicing imaging. Differentiation of rare and dual ANCA patterns from classical p-ANCA patterns are visualized well. Autoantibodies binding to the specific nuclear, nucleolar and cytoplasmic autoantigens can also be distinguished. This has a clinical relevance in the diagnosis of various autoimmune disorders and to identify cases in early onset of disease.
