Paediatric Immunology and Leukocyte Biology

About

The department of Pediatric Immunology and leukocyte Biology, established in 2007. The thrust areas of this department include Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases (PID), hematological malignancies, hematopietic stem cells and marrow failure syndromes. We have been recognized as ICMR- Center of Excellence for diagnosis of Primary immunodeficiency disorder for the significant contribution made in the field of PID.

The department facilitates comprehensive evaluation of different components of immune system using various assays including comprehensive immunophenotyping followed by molecular confirmation for varoius PIDs like SCID, antibody deficiencies like X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA), phagocytic defects like chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) and leukocyte adhesion deficiency-I (LAD-I), disorders of Immune Dysregulation like hemophagocyticlymphohistiocytosis (HLH), Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS) , etc.The department offers genetic counselling and prenatal diagnosis to the affected families. The department aims at fostering awareness and building capacity of clinicians and technicians in the field of PIDs.

The department is also focusing on harnessing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) technology for understanding the pathophysiology and management of human Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders. We are also working on the inherited marrow failure syndromes especially understanding immune pathology of aplastic anemia, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria and immunophenotypic abnormalities of myelodysplastic syndromes.
